US officials say fugitive scientists from Wuhan accuse China of pandemic

According to former presidential aide Steve Bannon, "people will be shocked" by this information.

LONDON, July 12. Employees of the laboratory in Wuhan, which was in the center of world attention after the spread of a new type of coronavirus, fled the country and collaborate with Western intelligence agencies. This statement was made on Sunday in the pages of the British newspaper Mirror by Steve Bannon, who was Donald Trump ’s White House chief strategist.

"I know that certain defectors are working with the FBI here to try to knit together what happened" in the Wuhan institute, which he said was "horribly run and terribly mismanaged," Mr Bannon said.

"They are not talking to the media yet, but there are people out of the Wuhan lab and other labs that have come to the West and are turning over evidence of the culpability of the Chinese Communist Party. I think people are going to be shocked." the former adviser to the American president told the newspaper. "People around these labs have been leaving China and Hong Kong since mid-February. [US intelligence] along with MI5 and MI6 are trying to build a very thorough legal case, which may take a long time. It’s not like James Bond." he added.

Bannon in 2016 held one of the key posts in the campaign headquarters of Donald Trump. He was later appointed to the post of chief administration strategist created in the White House. However, in August 2017, he decided to resign. The media then claimed that his relationship with Trump was seriously complicated. Bannon had previously spoken in support of right-wing and ultra-right-wing associations.

The article does not comment on either the US or British intelligence agencies or the official position of China regarding Bannon’s allegations.

US allegations

US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo previously stated that Washington had evidence that the coronavirus allegedly began to spread from a laboratory in Wuhan. In turn, Trump pointed out that the coronavirus could leave the Wuhan Institute of Virology due to the incompetence of staff.

In April, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Zhao Lijiang said that the version of the artificial creation of the coronavirus was not supported by any evidence. So he commented on the publication of the American television channel  Fox News that the first employee of the laboratory in Wuhan was infected with the coronavirus.

An outbreak caused by a coronavirus disease was recorded at the end of 2019 in Central China and spread to most countries. On March 11, the World Health Organization recognized it as a pandemic. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 12.7 million people have been infected with coronavirus in the world, about 565 thousand have died.
